EDC hydrochloride is a coupling reagent. Classified as a carbodiimide, EDC hydrochloride is carboxyl activating and water soluble. EDC hydrochloride is used for amide bond formation in oligonucleotides and tetraazamacrocycles. Since EDC hydrochloride is water soluble, it is a viable component to use in the preparation of chloroanthraquinone hydrazides. Additionally, EDC hdyrochloride may be used to activate phosphate groups, synthesize peptides, crosslink proteins to nucleic acids, and prepare immunoconjugates.
